Today is the greatest...

It is something magical when Kaia is in the water. It seems that we named her right, Kaia meaning ocean, because she is truly a water baby. Her comfort level in the water is a spectacle to behold. We often see complete strangers, pointing and whispering in hushed tones as she jumps into the water and kicks her tiny toddler frame from one end of the pool to the other.

I am not sure why I feel such pride in seeing her swim, after all, I do nothing more than be there for her when she needs a break or an arm to hold onto, but something about seeing her excitement and energy in the water makes me feel alive and worthy and happy. As if my purpose on earth is finally clear, to be there in the water in case my little girl needs support. I push her, and throw her, and laugh with her. We practice sitting at the bottom of the pool. We examine tiles and light fixtures. We hunt bubbles and explore different sounds underwater.

I can't wait to take her Scuba diving and talk to her about her early days in the water, as we sit on a beach somewhere watching the sunset I will say, "You could pretty much swim on your own when you were two."

She will be tan, covered in sand, and her hair course from the salt water, Mairin will come up from behind us and ask what we are talking about and Kaia will smile and say, "Dad is telling me the story about how I could swim when I was two."

"Again!" They will say in unison.

Today is the greatest
Today is the greatest day
Today is the greatest day
That I have ever known

That is all footage we have on the camera. Daddy and I were both very sick today, so we just laid around the house and watched movies. I watched Finding Nemo all the way through for the first time. We will post some new pictures when I feel better.

  1. As much as your mother liked being in water I don't think I have ever seen any child put her face in the water as much as you. Great job. Keep on swimming.
